What machines do we use at Midland Precision Engineers?

Here at MPE we are dedicated to staying up to date with the latest engineering machinery to enable us to make precision components to the very highest standards. What machines do we use?

There are 3 key machines that we use:
  • Nakamura Super NTY3
  • Citizen CNC Sliding Head Lathe M32-V Series 3
  • Citizen CNC Sliding Head Lathe A32-VIIPL

The first is a supreme machine as it contains the much anticipated triple Y-axis with 3-turret construction and has a machining time of 18 minutes.

The second is an exceptionally efficient, money-saving machine that creates complex parts which are up to 32mm is diameter . High speed processing control enables fast-acting macros for operations such as thread chasing. There are many other advantages to this machine including advanced control which allows front and back machining of up to 3 tools simultaneously. Not only that but the latest AC-drive technology reduces idle times and simplifies machine setup. Ideal for heavy machining, the super-fast changeovers can take place between jobs.

Finally, the A32-VIIPL is equipped for 32mm large diameter machining at a brilliantly competitive price. Its rigidity and strength gives it exceptional cutting performance and makes it ideal for heavy machining as well. It has a rapid feed rate of 45mm/minute and on average achieves a 30% higher productivity than previous machines.

Not only is it a highly sophisticated machine in terms of technology, but it is also praised for its space-saving design, ease of use, and low running cost (particularly in relation to its high productivity).

All of our machinery is chosen because it is reliable and creates component parts that keep our customers satisfied.

MPE Tackle

If you have not yet discovered it, here at Midland Precision we engineer our own MPE Tackle as well as precision components. The MPE Tackle is a type of custom bankware which includes banksticks and buzz bars. Made from titanium and hard anodised aluminium, it is designed to be long-lasting and hardwearing.

The system can be used all in one as a complete pod, or easily converted into single backsticks and buzzbars, depending on what is most useful in your situation.

It has been designed with a unique quick release system which allows alarms and other attachments to be speedily added to and removed from it. How does this work? You simply turn thumb screw 180 degrees and it is released.

These quick change titanium adaptors make everything easier; changing or altering the equipment that you are using to adapt to your surroundings has never been more straightforward.

Not only is it easy to set up and dismantle, the titanium point and sleeves of the MPE Tackle are much lighter than their stainless steel equivalents while being just as strong and looking completely professional. Its lightweight quality is one of the many features that make it so easy to carry around and set up wherever it is needed.

Designed and made in Nottingham, our MPE tackle is reliable, long-lasting, and can make a positive difference to you. If you have any questions about the MPE Tackle, or any of our other products, check out the website and if you have any questions do not hesitate to get

Midland Precision and Quality Control

“Precision engineering” refers to the process of designing machines and structures that repeat the same movements over long periods of time. The word “precision” indicates the extremely high levels of accuracy that the machines provide during this type of engineering work.

The aim of precision engineering is to create an exact movement that makes identical products. If this is managed successfully it means there is a huge reduction in running costs and the amount of money wasted on products that are thrown away because they are not identical to others in the same batch.
Today people are more concerned about using high precision products than ever before which is why manufacturing processes in this sector have developed rapidly in recent years. At Midland Precision we work hard to ensure that all of our components are fabricated to a very high specification using the very latest technology.

We use the most modern inspection and measuring equipment so that quality control is evident throughout everything that we do. We work hard to ensure that all of the products that we produce are made to an exact specification and if we think any of them are not as exact as they could be, they are not sold.

Our company has developed a fantastic reputation over the years for producing specialist, precise components. Our engineers specialise in small, complex turned and milled components which are 3mm in diameter and upwards. We understand the significance of quality control which is why we have inspectors who complete ‘first-off’ ‘patrol’ and ‘final’ evaluations of our machines, as well as random quality control inspections to ensure that our equipment is always performing to the highest possible standards.

Our exceptional quality control and operational maintenance ensures all components achieve component quality and accuracy to a tolerance of 5 microns (0.005 mm). With the ability to complete milling, drilling and turning functions within a single action, Midland Precision Engineering Limited can easily produce up to four hundred complex components every hour.

As well as our finished products, all of our CNC lathes and equipment are calibrated regularly using the most modern machinery. The Venture AB3-V vision system for example includes a 3D vision system that enables us to see the parts that we are measuring dimensioned in all 3 projections. We also use the Reinshaw Touch Probe which is used for complicated 3D measurement applications because it allows the use of both touch probe and camera measurements in the same inspection. The Venture AB3-V model features a high precision zoom lens which allow us to magnify between 30x-200x. It allows detailed reports of the dimensions and geometric tolerance to be created. We always update our equipment if we feel there is a new machine that can provide even better quality control.

If you would like to find out more information about our company and how we carry out quality control please visit our website at www. mpe-ltd.co.uk or contact us on 0115 939 1200.
